Franz-Josefs Railway Station

Vienna, Austria

In order to prepare for the future redevelopment of the Franz-Josefs railway station and Bank Austria building in Vienna’s 9th district, VCE was commissioned to establish a BIM model of the existing structure. The task involved translating approximately seven thousand hand drawn plans into a level 300 structural BIM model, including all structural floors, beams, columns, openings, pre-fabricated elements and stairs.  The existing plans dated back to 1974 and many were in a deteriorated condition and in dire need of digitisation.

The second phase of the project involved the calibration of every element of the BIM model to correspond to the 2D survey drawings in order to achieve a global tolerance of ±2cm.  The model will provide the optimal basis on which the future planning process can occur.
