The Rhine river plunges over a 23 m high and 150 m wide cliff in Schaffhausen. A new visitor centre including a path to the viewing platform at the upper Belvedere was erected in order to be able to cope with the tourist rush. The rock walls were secured with rock anchors. Above the Belvedere path 5 rock anchors and below the viewing platform 6 rock anchors were equipped with force measurement facilities. The measuring boxes were connected with the central measurement system on the viewing platform. In addition temperature and humidity sensors were installed. The measurement data are retrieved on an hourly basis and immediately conveyed to VCE by means of GPRS-modem. In case predefined alarm thresholds are exceeded, the client is automatically informed by e-mail.
