PROJECT of the MONTH OCTOBER 2024 | The Verdiepte Ligging was completed in summer 2024 and opened to traffic on 1 September 2024.
In the last few years the southern ring motorway through the town of Groningen (A7, Ring Zuid) was repaired and partly newly built on a total length of 12 km due to the high traffic load.
In this process the existing motorway was demolished and relocated underground on 1.2 km. The realized structure (KW19) is a twin-tube tunnel structure in open construction method with 4 traffic lanes per direction each. The approx. 35 m wide structure has both open and closed trough areas.
The method Building Information Modelling (BIM) was used in the design. This contained modelling, plan derivation from the models and 3D coordination with installations and adjoining buildings considering the construction levels. The model was used for documentation and work preparation by the executing company.
