Bridges connect people.
Starting with the beginnings of the company in the 1960s with the design of motorway bridges in the Alps, the numerous large bridges honoured with the Austrian Consulting award like Kao Ping Hsi in Taiwan, Olympic Grand Bridge in South Korea up to the recent Botlekbrug in the Netherlands, VCE has achieved an excellent reputation in bridge construction.
Projects are handled in three project phases depending on the contract after finding basic solutions: preliminary design, basic design and detailed design. An integral design regarding the route, structure and environment is especially emphasized. Apart from the optimum technical solution VCE supports and advises the clients from an economic point of view as well, for example by using life-cycle cost analyses.

The services offered by our scope of services civil engineering comprise design, supervision and check in all project phases (submission, tender, detailed design) as well as the preparation of expert opinions on several issues. VCE has successfully handled infrastructure projects in various functions.
Due to active participation of our staff members in the preparation of guidelines and national appendices for EU standards in engineering standard committees the high quality standard of this field is ensured and extended.

Railway Track Systems
Ballast-less tracks with all their components have been a focus of our activities both in development and in detailed structural design as well as in construction for more than 25 years. In addition we are specialists for ballasted track systems, sleepers, rail fastening systems and specialized construction elements.
Trams and Underground Railways
Further important components of our scope of services apart from standard gauge railways are design, development and consulting for trams and underground railways. This comprises new routes, reconstruction and rehabilitation of existing routes. We both cover the development of standard solutions and project specific basic, approval, tender and detailed structural design. In addition we offer supervision and check of system components.
Railway Operation
Examination of the railway system regarding operational aspects in feasibility studies, route design and system management with the focuses operational and timetable concepts, potential studies on passenger and freight traffic including cost and revenue calculations (profitability analyses) but also consulting in terms of accessibility of infrastructures and vehicles as well as of new technologies and solutions in freight traffic.
